Platforms and crossplay

Full crossplay across every platform since 1.0

Short version: yes, Valheim is cross platform, and it is about to get much more so. Today the game runs on PC and Xbox with crossplay between them. On September 9, 2026 the 1.0 launch adds PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the Deep North biome, with full crossplay across every platform.

How crossplay works

Crossplay is opt-in per world. When hosting you tick the crossplay box (on a dedicated server, the -crossplay flag), which routes the session through the cross-platform backend and gives it a six-digit join code any platform can enter. Steam-only sessions skip the flag and use Steam networking, which tends to be a touch smoother. Characters and worlds do not transfer between platforms by themselves, but world files are portable on PC, and PC players can share them freely.

What 1.0 changes

The September 9, 2026 launch is three things at once: the Deep North, the final biome with the last boss of the saga; the PS5 and Switch 2 releases; and the end of early access after five years. Mods stay a PC affair. If you are coming back for 1.0, the progression guide covers the road to the frozen north, and the seed map will show Deep North locations the day the update ships.
