Ravens, a wanderer and three traders

NPCs

47 Hugin lines · 19 Munin lines · Oden stays 60 s

Hugin is the raven who explains things, appearing at milestones and waiting at certain places until you read him. Munin, his brother, carries Oden's words from Yagluth onward, and his lines are about the world rather than how to play. Oden himself is the hooded figure you can see but never reach: he only appears at night after The Elder is dead, and he is gone within 60 seconds. The traders are on their own page.

Oden

The cloaked wanderer is a creature spawn like any other, so he can turn up on any night once the condition is met, and he leaves as soon as you try to approach.

· Welcome to Valheim

Start tips: try to interact with things in the environment. Some items like stones, branches and pieces of flint can be collected and used for crafting. To open your inventory and crafting screen press $KEY_Inventory.

after you die · You suffered a mortal blow!

Each time you are struck down, you will forget a small part of your abilities and drop your belongings at the site of the accident. If you wish you were home by now I'd recommend building a bed, wherever home may be.

when you open your inventory · Take stock of your inventory

Most items must be crafted. However, due to your recent departure from Midgard, you will have to recall the true shape of objects. Just pick things up and it will all come back to you, I'm sure. My lesser brother, Munin, tells me one can fashion a stone axe out of wood and stone.

· You need sustenance

Consuming food is of utmost importance to a viking warrior, even in the afterlife. Having a full belly both fortifies your health and improves your stamina. Food can be found everywhere in the world, and a great deal of it can be prepared at a cooking station.

when you pick up food · A tasty morsel!

You have found a snack. Consume it to improve your health and stamina. Be aware that before long you will grow hungry again, so try to always have at least a couple of different meals ready.

when you get a hammer · You have crafted a hammer

With this tool you will raise mighty halls and towering fortifications. Start by building a workbench. This in turn will enable you to construct other things.

when you get a hoe · You have crafted a hoe

This tool is used for landscaping. You could say it is the perfect complement to the hammer. Use it to clear the ground and manipulate the terrain. It is easier to create buildings on level ground!

when you first get cold · Be wary of the weather

When the temperature drops at night, or if you are wet, you will suffer from being cold. This reduces your stamina regeneration. Seeking shelter by an open flame is your best option when this happens.

when you are overloaded · You need to lighten your load!

If you carry too much luggage you will become encumbered, slowing you down and preventing you from regaining your stamina.

when you get the antler pickaxe · You have crafted a pickaxe

The black forest is rich in minerals. There you can find copper in the ground and tin lining the ocean shore. Now go forth and strike the earth!

when you pick up copper or tin ore · You have found some ore

Raw ore needs to be refined in the smelter before you can work it at the forge. To build a smelter you will need surtling cores. Search for them in the dark places beneath the earth.

with Eikthyr's trophy · Congratulations, warrior!

Return to the Sacrificial Stones with your Forsaken trophy and offer it as a sacrifice to make the Gods smile upon you.

with the Wishbone · Bonemass left you a parting gift

It seems one of the many bones this living ossuary hid in his belly was a Wishbone. This bone contains powerful magic which guides you to things hidden in the earth. It can locate silver veins, but may also lead you to buried treasure...

in the Black Forest before Eikthyr dies · Turn back! This is a dangerous place

You have wandered into the Black Forest. This place can be very dangerous for those unprepared for it. Prove your worth by slaying Eikthyr.

during your first raid · You have been invaded

Monsters will lay siege to your camp from time to time. Strength of arms does not guarantee you victory in these situations. Build a strong defense to weather out the storm!

with your first shield · You have crafted a shield

A shield allows you to block incoming damage. If your timing is perfect, the enemy may also be parried. Be careful though, if you block too many hits you will become staggered. The amount of damage you can block before becoming staggered depends on your maximum health, so if you plan on tanking a lot of damage you should eat food that increases your health. Heavier shields will block more damage but will also slow you down.

when you first have eitr

The mists permeate all that live and grow in these lands, and now it is a part of you as well. With eitr you will be able to cast all sorts of powerful spells. Try to find more eitr-infused ingredients to increase your ability.

in the Black Forest · Well met, adventurer…

Rumour has it that some traders have found themselves into the tenth world. If you find yourself in need of special commodities you might want to seek them out. One of them should be somewhere in a forest such as this. I'm terribly sorry I can't be of more help... you'll have to keep an eye out.

· Why, hello there.

I've heard that a trader was seen in an area not unlike this one. She is an odd character indeed, but may have very special goods for sale. However, rumour has it that her stocks have been raided. She might need a helping hand, and you are starting to look fairly capable by now.

· Watch your step, warrior.

I have a feeling that this place could be more challenging than one might expect.

on reaching the Ashlands · Keep a cool head!

You have discovered the Ashlands, the very hottest parts of the tenth world. Here, water boils without a cauldron, and anything flammable can be set alight with just a spark. Be careful!

on the Ashlands sea · Ahoy!

It seems you have ventured to the boiling waters of the south. As you surely noted, this can be a deadly pursuit. To traverse these waters you will need to build something sturdier if you dont want to sleep with the fishes.

with your first trinket · Adrenaline surges through you!

Kra-kraaa! Warrior, is that a gleaming trinket I see in your grasp? Don it with pride, and let its power course through you as you strike down your foes. Once your adrenaline reaches its peak, you are sure to be rewarded!

with your first mould · You have found a mould!

Moulds can yield fascinating results! But it is not enough to merely fill them with materials – they also need to be hardened with the help of extreme temperatures...

with the Sacrificial Blood · It is time...

Well done, warrior! You have found the sacrificial blood, the final key to restoring this realm. Now the All-Father has one last task for you – prove yourself worthy by journeying back to where it all began!

Where Hugin waits22

These ravens sit at a place or a build piece and speak when you come close.

Dvergr Excavation Site · You have built a ward

The ward emits a strong aura which prevents other vikings from building things. It also locks all doors within its influence.

Kra-kraaa! Stubborn fools! The Dvergr will tolerate strangers and vagrants but they are quick to anger should you upset them... Which I am sure you will manage to do sooner or later.

Burial Chamber · Treasures lie below

Delves and dungeons can be found across the tenth world. They are monuments of the past, and most often filled with the riches of civilizations long lost. Remember to bring a light source!

Sacrificial Stones · This stone is a Vegvisir

These magical stones were scattered throughout the lands by Oden as signposts pointing toward the ritual grounds of the Forsaken. If inspected closer, this one will reveal the summoning place of Eikthyr, your first prey. He is a mighty beast, so you need to properly arm yourself before even attempting to defeat him.

Sacrificial Stones · Oden is pleased

You have been granted the power of Eikthyr. Use it in times of need. Your next target dwells in the black forest. Go there, explore the lands, and uncover their lost treasures and resources. The Elder awaits!

Sacrificial Stones · Welcome to the tenth world, warrior

I am Hugin, sent here to guide you in your travels. The megaliths surrounding you are the Sacrificial Stones. They represent the Forsaken, which you must slay in order to ascend to Valhalla.

Smouldering Tombs · Watch your step, warrior.

I have a feeling that this place could be more challenging than one might expect.

Kraa! Pick their bones and break their domes!

Howling Caverns · Watch your step, warrior.

I have a feeling that this place could be more challenging than one might expect.

As I am sure my lesser brother tells you, the halls beyond are very impressive... Just try not to get lost in the winding tunnels and secret passageways will you?

Eikthyr's Altar · Calling forth the beast

You have found the summoning place of one of the Forsaken. Make the correct offering at their altar and they will come. Be wary though, the Forsaken are not easy prey, so craft a wicked weapon, don your finest armour, and eat a hearty meal before engaging them in combat.

Portals are great for fast travel between different parts of the world. Of course, you need to build one on the other end as well, then give the pair the same name and they will be automatically connected!

Artisan Press · A new tool

Now you'll be able to craft ceramic tiles, which have excellent heat insulation. You'll need them if you're to travel southwards!

It is not just a dragon's breath that burns bright, but its very essence as well. One can harness it, with enough skill and patience...

Kraa! Although severed from the trunk, I can see that magic still lingers in the roots of the old ash. Needless to say, no weapon of your design will be able to break the bark. You need something better, fashioned by more capable hands.

Shield Generator · Means of protection

Kraa! This should keep away whatever the sky might throw at you.

Cartography Table · Record your exploration

With this table you can record and share your explorations of the tenth world. Use the toolbox to record your progress and take a look at this large map to copy what others have explored.

Battering Ram · A powerful siege engine

The enemy fortresses are built from sturdy stuff. You'll need machines like this one if you're to break through their walls.

It is not just a dragon's breath that burns bright, but its very essence as well. One can harness it, with enough skill and patience...

· Journey to Valhalla

Well done, warrior! At long last, you have slain all Forsaken and proven yourself worthy. The gates of Valhalla are now open to you – all you need to do is to let the valkyrie carry you there. But worry not, you will always be welcome here in the tenth world, should you wish to return.

A strange edifice indeed. I wonder what it will attract. Let us just perch here for a while and see what happens... Warrior, I am bored. Besides, it is not my job to babysit the likes of you long into the night... Just be vigilant and I'm sure you will be rewarded.

Be wary! The being imprisoned beyond this gate is mighty, more so than any other to be found in all of Valheim. You would do well to prepare accordingly before you venture forth to this final foe.

Munin19

The second raven, who arrives once Yagluth is dead and speaks at places in the later biomes.

after Yagluth dies

Kraa! Well met, wanderer… I am Munin, brother to Hugin. I bring greetings from the Allfather. His eye sees through mine, I carry his words beneath my tongue. Keep his ways and I will come to you again…

after The Queen dies

Well fought warrior! My brother and I will feast well on this offering! Yet still there is work for your arm… In the Ashlands dark clouds blister the sky and the King stirs on his bed of embers. Until today you have only quarreled. Now you must prepare yourself for war…

with a bell fragment · A fragment of the past

Kraa! A sad memory lingers here... A faint echo in the air... Once these rang for joy to celebrate his passing but now he cannot bear the sound nor the reminder. If you seek to bring him give them voice once more.

Take care, warrior. You've happened upon an outpost of the forlorn Dvergr clans, long since separated from their kin in Nidavellir. Trapped here they still toil, expecting reprieve that will never come. It is a sad fate...

This is a place of transformation. Certain creatures find a new purpose here, becoming something more than they once were. Are you one of these creatures, I wonder?

Well met little swordling! Look around you this is the Waste of the Emerald Flame… This is the end of all pride the fire that consumes itself… Tread carefully!

Shadows of an ancient age. The Jotunn once ruled the tenth world, until their time ran out and they were ousted by some other power.

Kraahaha! A fellow carrion bird! Look at you picking over these poor dead remains…

Hmmm... How do you yet live warrior? Perhaps you have found your element here in the furnace? Curious...

These are the Dvergrhomes, built long ago in a gilded age... Their splendour rivalled the Golden Hall itself! Regrettably, nothing can last forever. The halls below and the treasures left within are now guarded by more sinister lodgers.

Long ago, others attempted to sail to these lands. It appears they made it here, but that there was no way for them to make the return journey...

· Hear ye, wanderer!

Finding this place of ancient power is no easy feat, and those who have done so stand to gain a great deal! A word of warning, however – while the Forge may work brilliantly in your favour, it may just as easily shatter that which you seek to refine...

· And so the saga comes to an end...

You have fought well, warrior. Thanks to you, the Forsaken are no more, and this world can once again be reunited with the rest of Yggdrasil. But that is a story for another time! For now, you ought to claim your reward in Valhalla, don't you think?

Kraa! I bring a message from the Allfather. Honor is forged in flame. Strike hard upon the anvil spare not the steel!

Watch these lands for memorials in the honour of the warriors who came before you. They may bestow a boon upon you, should you prove yourself worthy in their eyes.

Long before the Allfather summoned you, others were tasked to guard this world. Even though many years have gone by since their passing, they still can't seem to find peace. Be kind, and do not disturb them.

Kraa! Strange folk dwell here, created from the very evil itself...

Kraa! Poor pickings here. Empty skulls scoured clean by the flames. Barely a trace of memory left…

Kraa! Those who first ventured here did not know about the underground thieves. If they had known, they would certainly have chosen better places to build their homesteads.
