It always drops

Feathers.
It can be tamed with

Hen is a tameable bird with 10 health and the grown form of a 
Chicken, which makes it the one tame that has to be hatched from an 
Egg rather than fed in the wild. A chicken takes roughly two in-game days to grow up. Feeding a hen Dandelion, Barley, Beech Seeds, Birch Seeds, Carrot Seeds, Onion Seeds or Turnip Seeds makes it lay more eggs. It drops one Chicken Meat and 1 to 3 Feathers, and takes normal damage from every type except spirit.
Buy an egg from Hildir, keep it warm near a fire until it hatches, and the result is tame from its first breath. Feed seeds, dandelions or barley. They are fragile and dumb in equal measure, so wall the coop against everything, including your own careless swings: only a 
Butcher Knife can hurt them on purpose.
With devcommands enabled, this spawns Hen in front of you. The third number is the level: 3 spawns a 2-star.
