VALHEIM.TOOLS

Patch 1.0.21

Version 1.0.21 · October 28, 2026 · 38 notes · Steam post

A long list of tweaks and bug fixes incoming today! It touches on a little bit of everything, and we hope this patch will serve to give you all a smoother experience adventuring in Valheim.

Due to some internal restrictions, the patch will require a few days to get uploaded to all platforms. Despite this, however, crossplay will still remain functional, so you can keep playing with your friends regardless of what platform you're on.

What changed in the game files

World generation is unchanged. WorldGenerator, ZoneSystem, Heightmap, DungeonGenerator, the alternative biome classes and the noise library decompile byte-identical to 1.0.20, so every seed map, seed page and seed finder result on this site still holds.

The three Deep North bakes are the only recipe move. Raw Kale Chips, Oven Pancake Batter and Unbaked Poteitr now come off a level 1 Food Preparation Table instead of a level 6 or 7 Cauldron, with the same ingredients, so the Cauldron's upgrades no longer stand in the way. The oven step hasn't changed.

Headdress of the Caller upgrades no longer take a Moose Trophy. The cast still needs one, but every upgrade used to want another, seven in all from quality 2 to 4, which made a 10% drop the slowest part of the helmet.

The Nord Greatsword and its Thunderblood and Frostfire versions lost the multi-target penalty on the primary swing. Hitting several enemies used to divide each one's damage by 0.75 times the number hit, so two targets took 67% each and three took 44%. Now each takes full damage, which makes a swing through three enemies 2.25 times as strong per target.

Moose attacks reach 4 m instead of 5.5 m: horns, hooves and the sweep, on wild moose and the Spirit Caller's moose alike. Spirit Caller wolves no longer breed, since their tame setup lost its offspring, so a summoned pair won't make cubs.

Deep North snow firs now drop Timberwood Cones themselves: when the tree falls it rolls 2 to 3 times at 50% for 1 or 2 cones, where it used to drop ordinary Fir Cones, and its feathers and resin roll 2 to 3 times instead of 1 to 2. The logs stopped dropping cones, and Timberwood went from a fifth of each log's 10 rolls to half, so a log averages 5 Timberwood instead of 2. A planted cone still grows the big fir in the Meadows, Black Forest, Mountain or Plains.

The only new breakables in the location files are the snow walls in Deep North village buildings, which are now ordinary destructible objects. They drop nothing.

Gammeltroll punches dropped from tool tier 6 to 4. A petrified Gammeltroll needs tier 6 to break, so a live one swinging at you can't smash its stone neighbours any more.

A Catch Worthy of Njord now checks for a four-star fish. A fish's quality is its star count plus one, and the achievement used to count quality 4, so a three-star fish unlocked it. It now needs quality 4 and quality 5 together, which means one three-star and one four-star catch. The Trophy Collector list in the files is the same 70 trophies as in 1.0.20, with the Troll Trophy already among them, so that patch note doesn't show up in the data.

One code fix touches movement. The check that makes frictionless ground slippery tested the surface's layer number against a bit mask instead of shifting a bit by it, and on Unity's Default layer, number 0, that always came out as no slip. Frictionless ground on that layer now slides as intended.

The Forge of Potential roll is unchanged. The name box fix sends every typed character through a validator that also drops broken emoji halves, then through the same capitalisation rule as before, so names still save the way the Forge predictor expects: odinson as Odinson, ODINSON as OdInSoN.

The timescale console command's help text now says 5 instead of 3. The code already capped the speed at 5 in 1.0.20; the cap was never on the fade time the help text describes.
