Iron Ore

Unrefined iron. Needs to be refined in a smelter.

Iron Ore is a material smelted into Iron at a Smelter with Coal for fuel. Its recorded sources are iron veins, meteorite and bog iron deposits, and a bonus catch while fishing for Giant Herring, but iron veins do not generate during normal world generation, which leaves fishing as the only supply most worlds ever see. The iron a base is actually built out of comes from Scrap Iron in the sunken crypts instead. It stacks to 30 at 10 weight each and cannot go through a portal, so one full stack is 300 weight to move by boat.
