Portals

2 portals · 26 items the wooden one refuses · tags up to 10 characters

The wooden portal refuses 26 items, mostly ores and metal bars, so early metal still goes home by boat or cart. The stone portal from the Ashlands lets all of them through. One item goes through neither: Sacrificial Blood has to be carried on foot, even on a world that allows every item. Only players travel. Tames, carts and boats stay where they are.

Carry any one of these and the wooden portal will not take you, whatever else is in your bags. Bars smelted from these ores are refused too, which is why a smelter at the mine does not save the trip.

Linking portals

Portals pair by tag. Use a portal to name it (ten characters at most) and it links to another portal with exactly the same tag that is not already linked, including two portals with no tag at all. Each portal holds one link. If three or more share a tag, the game picks a free partner at random and the spare stays dark, so give every pair its own name. Renaming a portal breaks its link and it looks for a new partner.
